Follow-Up: New Paltz Brewing Co. Opens in Wawarsing

Here is an update on the progress of New Paltz Brewing Co.’s new brewhouse and tap room in Wawarsing, which Catskill Eats first reported last fall.

The brewery’s new headquarters will soft-open this weekend, owner Heiko Giesberg told fans of his European-style beers on social media this week. Hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday,

More from Giesberg’s Facebook post:

We have bier, bottled soda, chips, imported German pretzels, cool musik and some other goodies. Hope to see familiar faces of those that have supported us since we started, at events, and hope to meet new friends.

New Paltz Brewing started in a small farmstand in Ulster Park in 2014 and expanded to a  3,000-square-foot warehouse at 7174 Route 209 late last year.

Giesberg, whose parents both hail from Germany, has focused his product line on recreating Old World styles to share with new audiences. The brewery is known for its pilsner, an unfiltered blond lager;  kellerbier, an unfiltered amber lager; kotbusser ale, a northern German style made with oats, honey and molasses; and rauchbier, a smoked lager made with barley dried over an open flame.

An official grand opening is planned for mid-September, just in time for Oktoberfest, Giesberg said.
